Type Locality and Naming

Located close to the the Ajali River, northwest of the Ninth River Corner, near Enugu (Reyment, 1965)

Synonym: Ajali Sandstone Fm

Lithology and Thickness

Consists of friable, white, cross-bedded sandstones with thin beds of white mudstone near the base. Large scale cross bedding is common and irregular bands of intra-formational breccia occur. It is said to be 1500ft thick along the Enugu escarpment north of the Oji River (Simpson, 1954).

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Directly rests on the basement complex at River Oluwa in Ondo State, and rests on the Mamu Fm along the tributary of River Orle near Ugbeke village and south of the Ankpa Plateau (Nwajide, 2013)

Upper contact

Conformably underlies the Nsukka Fm.
